The Sexagenarian, or Recollections of a Literary Life, being a collection of humorous anecdotes and depictions of literary life was Beloe’s final work. The book was in the process of being published when Beloe died. The work caused a furore; Dr. Butler head master of Shrewsbury School at the time criticised it severely saying he was “compelled to record the name of Beloe as an ingrate and a slanderer”.
A handsome two volume set in contemporary calf.
