Includes contemporary W.H. SMITH & SON’S Subscription Library bookplate inscribed in brown ink: ‘’sold at Torquay May 5/70”.

Frances Mary Peard (1835 – 1923) was an English author and traveller who wrote over 40 works of fiction (mostly domestic novels set abroad) for children or adults between 1867 and 1909. She died in Torquay in 1923. Her fiction for adults includes Unawares (1870); The Rose-Garden (1872); Thorpe Regis (1874); and Cartouche (1878).
