PROVENANCE: Previous owner’s signature on front pastedown (signature crossed through, also partially erased signature on title page), other signature on front endpaper dated 1845. Same signature as the one on the front pastedown to rear pastedown (this one not crossed through ‘Captn. Jane(?) RN.’ There is copious marginalia and annotations throughout in an early/mid 19th century hand. A rare and fascinating insight into road building and maintenance in the Georgian period.
