” I had a fearful week just before at Windsor, and had borrowed £5,000 from Mr Charles Turner, a man in the ring, who lent me the money upon my giving him a written promise that I would sell my horses for his benefit if I could not repay him the amount and £2,000 interest within three months”. 

“I was now most awfully down and really did not know what to do. I had no money, and did not know how to get along to Monte Carlo, or how to get back to England”. 

“…Let me express the conviction that the acquirement of the faculty for using the little word “No” is of inestimable value to youngsters about town”.
