TIMBS was educated at private school and aged 16 was apprenticed to a druggist and printer in Dorking. Sub-editor of the Illustrated London News and published works of over one hundred and fifty volumes, he was elected fellow of The Society of Antiquaries of London in 1834. He is buried in Edenbridge, Kent.
