Stuart Moore Lynn (1906-97). Active in photography from 1938- 1974.
Born in 1906 in Hustonville, Kentucky, Lynn worked in commercial photography, mostly in New Orleans. In 1938 he began his career, initially wanting to join the Merchant Marines but ‘went into photography instead’. During World War II he took aerial photographs of Florida and California.
Lynn was head of the photography department at the newly formed Ochsner Clinic until 1952. This book: New Orleans was published by Hastings House as a celebration of his work. He retired from commercial photography in 1974.
In 1988 an exhibition of his work (including photographs of New Orleans) opened at The Williams Gallery of the Historic New Orleans Collection. The exhibition ran until April of that year.
